  • Week 1: July 4th - 8th

    Pets (Ages 5-6) – 5 x SPACES REMAINING!

Kids love pets! But whether they are dogs, cats, hamsters, or fish, owning a pet comes with big responsibilities!

In Pear Tree’s ‘Pets’ camp, students will learn about different kinds of pets, what their needs are, and how to interact with them appropriately.

Students will work on amazing mini-projects that incorporate science, math, and arts & crafts. Some activities include making pet finger puppets, math games related to feeding and caring for pets, drama activities, reading picture books about pets, and experiments about foods pets like.

Depending on COVID restrictions, we may invite families to do short visits with their pet.

    Food Glorious Food (7-9) – 4 x SPACES REMAINING!

Yes, food is glorious! Vancouver is such a “foodie” city, with so many different dishes and fresh, healthy things to eat.

In this course, we’ll introduce students to basic nutrition, prepare a dish each class, learn about fitness and healthy living. We will do blind taste-testing, make food art, and even take food photography!

Students will gain an appreciation for trying new things and how food impacts their body.

  • Week 2: July 11th - 15th

    Nature Explorers (Ages 5-6) – 2 x SPACES REMAINING!

Join us in a week of outdoor adventures, where we’ll learn about nature and how to take care of it!

We will learn about BC’s old-growth forests, build a hummingbird feeder, use natural items to make eco-art, and take photographs of nature.

Through daily nature walks, lots of outdoor play, as well as field trips to local natural settings, we’re sure you’ll discover something new about nature this week!

    Medieval Times (Ages 7-9)

Hear ye, Hear ye, all Lords and Ladies! Join us for a week of medieval times.

During the camp, you’ll make shields, create a crown, design a personal crest, build a castle, and design a mini catapult.

This course also includes many drama and public speaking activities, with the opportunity to perform like a person from the Medieval times!

N.B. This class will not participate in any activities related to violence, so no need to ask!

    Urban Gardeners (Ages 5-6) – 3 x SPACES REMAINING!

In this course, we’ll give you tips to be a successful gardener in the city. Each day will be filled with different gardening activities, from learning to recognize weeds from plants, to how much to water, to different kinds of seeds. Every day, we’ll spend a significant amount of time outdoors. We’ll also use the flowers we see outside to inspire observational painting, and use our math skills to calculate numbers of seeds we need, or basic plots of the garden to plant in!

We’ll plan a different seed daily, so you’ll have a number of seedlings to take home at the end of the week. We’ll also visit one or more local community gardens, to learn to recognize different kinds of plants and vegetables.

We’ll be playing games like Capture the Flag and California Kick Ball, as well as more traditional sports like tennis and soccer. Not only that, but we will be doing different fitness-based activities to improve our strength and stamina! Each day, different students will have opportunities to model and explain these activities, which help public speaking and leadership skills.

This week will be held outdoors, rain or shine!

  • Week 4: July 25th - 29th

    Interesting Insects (5-6) – 5 x SPACES REMAINING!

Leave your bug spray at home! Find out how insects are important for our community and environment.

After making our insect sanctuaries, we will go on daily nature walks and collect insects to observe and research. Some of these insects include pill bugs, centipedes, and ladybugs!

Our students will also take part in learning about and raising butterflies. The butterflies will be released in the summer as part of an inclusive field trip.

    Ancient Olympians (Ages 7-9) – 2 x SPACES REMAINING!

In this course, students will learn about Ancient Greek myths and legends, and make connections to how Ancient Greece influenced today’s society.

We’ll cook food and feast like the Ancient Greeks, create some Greek mosaic art, build a Greek-inspired building and perform Greek Reader’s Theater.

Our course will be concluded with “Mini Olympics”, where students in the course design the activities for all Pear Tree students to participate in! This is a great leadership and community-building opportunity.

  • Week 5: August 2nd - 5th (4-day week)

Connect to Nature (Ages 7-9) – 2 x SPACES REMAINING!

We are so lucky to live as close as we do to forests and beaches! Connect to Nature is a great course for students who love to spend time outdoors.

During the course, we will do many Waldorf-inspired nature crafts, play nature games outside, and get some time both in the forest and at the beach.

Some activities include wood-burning crafts, nature mobiles, exploring music and nature, and building mini gnome houses.

    Super Structures (Ages 5-6)

Do you like to build things? Are you an aspiring engineer? Then this hands-on exploration course is for you!

During this course, you will learn basic building principles and apply your knowledge by taking part in daily structure challenges!

You will learn how to apply critical thinking skills, how to be a creative designer and problem-solver, and apply math, science and design concepts using a variety of building materials, including straws, paper, clay, blocks, K’Nex, Lego and even eggs!

  • Week 6: August 8th - 12th

    Transportation (Ages 5-6) – 2 x SPACES REMAINING!

Planes, trains, and automobiles are only some of the ways of getting around in our Transportation theme!

Through a wide range of activities that include STEM, math, literacy, singing, drama, and art, we look at Vancouver’s options of buses, sky train, helicopters, and boats. We’ll build small boats, learn about money and buying bus tickets, read nonfiction books about transportation, and have opportunities for dramatic play.

Depending on COVID restrictions, this theme may include a field trip.

    Amazing Artists (Ages 7-9) – 1 x SPACE REMAINING!

Mixed media is the best of all art forms, because it blends a variety of them to make masterpieces!

Rather than focusing on one form of media such as a piece of art that only works with paint, these pieces will include a variety of media.

Some of our art pieces will include painting, papier-mache, fabric, wood, and pastels. We will also incorporate photography, magazine ads and different fonts.

Amazing Artists is a wonderful course to exhibit creativity while still learning about different art techniques.

As painters, we will have lots of time to try different paints and painting techniques! We’ll work with watercolour, acrylic and tempera paints.

Our paintings will be inspired by nature, animals, literature, our friends and family, and even the summer weather!

The young artists of this course will have a small portfolio of art pieces to share with you at the end of this week.

    STEM Challenges (7-9) – 6 x SPACES REMAINING!

Join us for a week of fun, daily STEM challenges!
