Work For Us

Pear Tree Education is currently seeking employees, as follows:

  1. Teachers: Masters-degree, qualified school teachers who want to teach in a 21st century manner at our after-school learning center.
  2. Volunteers: Bachelor-degree, aspiring teachers to act as teacher assistants to gain valuable 21st century classroom experience.
  3. Summer Camp Teachers: Bachelor-degree or higher, qualified school teachers who want to teach in a 21st century manner at our summer camps.
  4. Summer ESL Teachers / Activity Leaders: Bachelor-degree, qualified ESL teachers who want to teach English and lead activities at our international summer language school at UBC.

Pear Tree is not a tutoring centre, so please read about our educational method (using the above menu), as well as our requirements below before applying; we will not respond to anyone that is applying randomly.
 

(1) Want to teach for us?

The following education, experience, and skills are preferred:

  • A master’s degree, honour’s degree or double major
  • Experience teaching in the B.C. schools
  • A B.Ed. from a B.C. university
  • Familiarity with B.C. IRPs and PLOs
  • The ability to effectively implement technology in education
  • Familiarity and experience with concepts of 21st century learning

Teachers are expected to instruct up between 2 and 6 hours per week, with up to 5 additional hours available to lead student workshops and K-12 field trips.
Teachers receive highly competitive wages. Teachers will receive additional professional development training and workshops paid for by Pear Tree Education. Classes consist of small groups. Teachers will work with children admitted on a selective intake.

(2) Want to volunteer for us?

Pear Tree Education is looking for pre-service or aspiring B.C school teachers who want to develop their teaching abilities by working as a support teacher in our exciting after-school learning center, located on West Broadway near MacDonald.
The following education, experience, and skills are preferred:

  • Experience working with school-aged children
  • Pre-service teaching experience, or currently working towards becoming a teacher
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Willingness to collaborate with the classroom teacher
  • An interest in effectively implementing technology in education
  • An interest in 21st Century learning concepts

Volunteer teacher assistants would be asked to provide in-class support between 2 and 6 hours per week. Our times are flexible! Teacher assistants may be expected to provide in-class support for small classes, help classroom teachers plan lesson ideas, prepare materials, work closely with school-aged children on theme-based projects, and help lead aspects of the class. Chaperoning on field trips will also be possible on select weeks.
Classes consist of small groups. Teacher assistants will work with children who are admitted on a selective intake. Teacher assistants will receive additional professional development training and workshops paid for by Pear Tree Education, as well as a financial bonus for completion of a 3-month term.

About Us

Pear Tree Education is opening an exciting, new after-school learning center in the heart of Kitsilano, Vancouver. Our learning center will feature state-of-the-art technology, including interactive white boards, laptops, and a high-speed Wi-Fi connection.
