Bee Hive Field Trip to the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel

Paul Romani

Pear Tree students, who are part of the Plants and Pollinators course, went on a field trip to the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel on Saturday, 1st June.

Fairmont’s Michael King gave Pear Tree’s students a wonderful lesson about urban bee keeping, bee behaviour, and some of the ecological issues affecting the bee population. He also explained the hotel’s role in bee preservation, as well as their use of the honey in their restaurant products.
Parents and Pear Tree staff also attended the field trip. There was something for everyone that attended. Vancouver’s waterfront offers beautiful views, and the rooftop gardens just accentuate that.
Everyone was lucky with the weather, as the field trip hinged on there being dry weather.
Pear Tree would like to thank Michael King and the Fairmont Hotel for giving our students such an amazing tour of their bee hives. We would also like to thank our teacher Lindsay and her sister for recommending this wonderful field trip!
