Continuing by popular demand, the weekly Hour of Code at Pear Tree incorporates critical thinking, problem solving, math and creativity.
Students will work with a variety of coding apps and programs, including Little Codr, LightBot, Osmo, Scratch, Tynker and Pear-y, our Dash robot.
Each class will be guided but students will apply problem solving skills and work either in small groups or teams to work through challenges. Students are not required to bring a device.
It is not a requirement for students to have participated in our previous coding enrichment courses.
Students participating in this course will not be required to bring in their own device, but will use Pear Tree’s iPads and laptops.
This course is an extension of the Kids Can Cook course from term 1.
While there will be a review of many cooking and baking techniques, students will work in small groups and expand their repertoire of culinary skills.
The course includes hot and cold items, as well as a variety sweet and savoury. Students should bring an apron for each class.
Spring is a perfect time to go outdoors in Kitsilano and practice basic photography techniques!
We will work on the Rule of Thirds, discover how to take great portraits, take shots from various perspectives, and capture still life.
Our photography will include nature, objects, ourselves, and our classmates.
Students will also learn how to edit photos, create collages, and blend photos. Students can bring their own camera and cable, or borrow a device from Pear Tree.
In this course, your child will engage in a variety of different drama games and activities.
It’s a great opportunity for them to practice public speaking!
The students will also explore iMovie and develop their own short movies after developing storyboards and scripts.
This course is suitable for ESL students and native speakers.
Students participating in this course will not be required to bring in their own device, but will use Pear Tree’s iPads.
