Each camp registration requires a $100 non-refundable deposit per course, which is to be paid immediately upon registration. To register, either book online using Amilia (option 1), or fill out the following registration form (option 2).

Pear Tree’s promotions are different from Amilia’s normal selections. As such, please note the following:

  1. Early Bird ($) pricing + (%) Discounts: Amilia applies these when you go to checkout, not while you are selecting.
  2. Early Bird (%) 4/6 Week Discounts: Amilia calculates multi-week discounts on the normal price (not on the Early Bird price). As such, the percentages used are adjusted to make the values correct.
  3. Deposits: Amilia calculates the quantity of $100 deposits based on checkout ($) total, not on the number of camps selected. As such, the first payment requested may be less than the number of camps you have registered for, in which case you can manually change your current payment to the necessary deposit amount (e.g. 4 x $100 = $400).

Pear Tree Education is offering the ultimate in Vancouver summer camps for boys and girls aged 5-14. Each summer camp run from 9am – 3pm at our learning centre in Kitsilano.

We have summer camps for 9 weeks (starting 4th July and finishing 2nd September), with individual summer camps lasting 1 week. All of our Vancouver summer camps are designed by Pear Tree. Led by experienced Vancouver school teachers, our summer camps offer exceptional levels of safety, enjoyment and education! We also offer two additional services including a Hot Lunch program ($60/wk) and pre-camp/after-camp care ($125/wk combo). At $250 per 5-day camp, you won’t find a better value for money summer camp anywhere else in Vancouver!

Summer Camp Vancouver Prices 2016

If you book and pay your deposit by 1st May 2016, you will receive our discounted price of $220 per week! Furthermore, by booking 4 weeks or more of our Vancouver summer camps, you could save up to 20% off our regular price. We’re confident you won’t find a better value for money Vancouver summer camp! Prices are for 5-day weeks. On weeks with statutory holidays, the price will be calculated for the actual number of days. This applies to our Hot Lunch program, too.

2016 Summer Camps Vancouver

Week 1: July 4th – 8th

Junior Scientists (5-6)

Get your lab coats and beakers ready!

Science is always fun when you’re doing the experiments! In this exciting, hands-on course, we’ll be conducting a variety of experiments, learning about the scientific method, carrying out observations and recording data in our science journals, just like real scientists.

Among our activities will be ‘Flubber’ making, dissections, and even kitchen science, where we get to eat our experiments!

Marine Biology (7-9)

With so many interesting sea creatures and aquatic plants, who doesn’t love exploring beaches? With beaches so close to Pear Tree, we’ll have lots of opportunities to explore local marine life.

As a young biologist, you’ll develop important skills such as observing, documenting and comparing. The marine biologists will conduct several experiments.

We will also learn about marine life in other parts of the world, including sharks, crabs and jellyfish!

Graphics Design (10-14)

All Pear Tree courses have a purpose, and our Graphics Design camp is no different!

Using sophisticated software and technology including Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, your child will work on collaborative projects to produce posters, typefaces, leaflets, magazine articles, and that highlight local causes.

Pear Tree’s Graphics Design course will teach your child the essentials of how to use literature, research, critical thinking, and technology to help others – all essential skills for their future lives.

Week 2: July 11th – 15th

Painters Pallet (5-6)

As painters, we will have lots of time to try different paints and painting techniques! We’ll work with water colour, acrylic and tempera paints.

Our paintings will be inspired by nature, animals, literature, our friends and family, and even the summer weather!

The young artists of this course will have a small portfolio of art pieces to share with you at the end of this week.

Weather Watchers (7-9)

Whether you are an aspiring meteorologist, or are just curious to know why it rains so much in Vancouver, we’re sure you’re going to enjoy this hands-on course about weather!

Some of the activities we’ll do include making a barometer, creating our own water cycle, learning about seasons and temperature, and even participating in some natural disaster challenges!

Based on our knowledge of the current weather, we’ll even do our own weather broadcasts! Much of this course will take place outside.

Entrepreneur (10-14)

Becoming an entrepreneur is incredibly exciting! You’re involved in every aspect of your business and its products/services! It’s also something best learned about while you’re young and daring!

In Pear Tree’s Entrepreneur course, your child will work in small teams to create a product and/or service, they’ll make their own WordPress website complete with plug-ins, and they’ll give sales presentations.

Entrepreneur is a wonderful course to learn about public speaking, critical thinking, web design, innovation, and collaboration.

Week 3: July 18th – 22nd

Go Green Eco Team (5-6)

Want to learn about how you can “go green”?

At Pear Tree, you’ll learn how to be better citizens, both locally and globally, through fun and practical ways. We’ll plant terrariums, create our own worm farm, and even make our own eco-friendly soap!

Some great outdoor activities we’ll be doing include participating in recycling relays, as well as storm drain marking to increase awareness about protecting our local salmon streams!

Food, Glorious Food! (7-9)

Yes, food is glorious! Vancouver is such a “foodie” city, with so many different dishes and fresh, healthy things to eat. In this course, we’ll introduce students to basic nutrition, prepare a dish each class, learn about fitness and healthy living. We will do blind taste-testing, make food art, and even take food photography! Students will gain an appreciation for trying new things and how food impacts their body.

PLEASE NOTE: Pear Tree’s healthy Hot Lunch Program is mandatory for this course, as food is provided throughout the week. Therefore, an additional $60 must be added to the camp price.

‘Pear’formers (10-14)

Dance, theatre, and musical theatre, Pear Tree’s Pearformers course has a little bit of everything of the performing arts! We’re bringing Broadway to West Broadway. Whether or not your child already does acting , dancing, or singing, in Pearformers we’ll start from the basics and will work upwards to create small group performances. If you’re confident enough to do a solo performance, there’s room for that, too! Come and discover your inner talents!

Week 4: July 25th – 29th

Our Community (5-6)

We will explore the roles of various important members of our community, including fire fighters, construction workers, doctors, police officers and veterinarians.

These roles will be explored through art, literature, and dramatic play. Students will take on the roles of different community members, design their own town, and learn how they fit in our community.

This course will even include a field trip to a local fire or police station!

Photography (7-9)

Vancouver is one of the most photogenic cities in the world, especially in the summer! Join us for a week of capturing this beauty by learning about composition and creating meaning behind photography.

You’ll learn all about basic digital photography techniques and use these to take some great photos. As well, you’ll have the opportunity to turn your photos into cards.

PLEASE NOTE: It is recommended that students bring their own digital camera for this course.

Film Noir (10-14)

Pear Tree is bringing the old with this homage to film noir cinema. We have one week to create, film, and edit a neo noir movie, and we need your help!

With movies requiring a massive team, there is guaranteed to be a role for you: live acting, voice overs, directing, filming, editing, music, or writing.

Come and find out if you can make it in the movie industry.

PLEASE NOTE: It is recommended that students bring their own rechargeable digital cameras with a video mode or iPads.

Week 5: August 2nd – 5th (4-day week)

Drama 101 (5-6)

Let your imaginations run wild in this class! Dramatic play is not only fun and engaging for young children, but it’s an important way for them to explore and make sense of the adult world.

Our drama specialist will engage students in a variety of drama-based games, and provide a safe environment for children to try out different roles.

Students will also have lots of opportunities for play-based learning in our dramatic play centers.

O Canada (7-9)

Let’s celebrate the amazing country we live in!

We’ll read different stories about Canada and Canadians, make some Canadian food, create some epic pictures and paintings in the style of Emily Carr, learn about some great Canadian inventors and inventions, be inspired by Canadian athletes, and look at Canadian wildlife and nature.

Phew! So much in one week!

Photo(shop) (10-14)

If want to practice more advantage photography and learn how to edit photos in Adobe Photoshop, then Pear Tree’s Photo(shop) camp is for you.

You’ll take photos for daily themes, and will edit these photos to refine them. You’ll also create an online portfolio to remember and share with family and friends.

PLEASE NOTE: Students should bring their own digital camera.

Week 6: August 8th – 12th

Interesting Insects (5-6)

Leave your bug spray at home! Find out how insects are important for our community and environment.

After making our insect sanctuaries, we will go on daily nature walks and collect insects to observe and research. Some of these insects include pill bugs, cenipedes, and ladybugs!

Our students will also take part in learning about and raising butterflies. The butterflies will be released in the summer as part of inclusive field trip.

Reptiles (7-9)

Turtles, snakes, lizards , crocodiles and alligators are all interesting reptiles. At Pear Tree, students will feel like real biologists as they take part in hands-on activities, research, experiments, and art projects related to reptiles.

Additionally, Pear Tree is the home to a corn snake! Don’t worry, she is completely harmless to humans, and is extremely sweet! Students will have opportunities to care for and handle her daily.

Sports Science (10-14)

Science separates sports amateurs from the professionals.

At Pear Tree, in addition to playing different sports, students will study and implement sports health and food nutrition, make their own smoothies and health snacks, practice special exercising methods (incl. plyometrics), use technology & apps, and develop their own digital training regime.

Week 7: August 15th – 19th

Story World (5-6)

In Pear Tree’s Story World camp, we’ll explore graphic novels, picture books and short stories as a way to develop our literacy skills!

Some of the important literacy skills we will practice daily include making inferences, asking questions, and connecting to characters’ feelings in books.

Each class, we will explore different authors and genres. These books will inspire art, drama and other activities. We will even make our own short picture book!

Film Studios II (7-9)

Calling all future movie directors! Using computers, digital cameras and interactive Smartboards, your team will create and direct several of your own animations and short films.

You’ll make storyboards and scenery, and will create your own short animation and film. You’ll learn how to add voice overs, words, music and sound effects. Each day, we will learn a different drama technique, and we’ll even do some of our own acting to film!

PLEASE NOTE: It is recommended that students bring their own digital camera for this course.

Young Detectives (10-14)

If you love problem solving, science and a good mystery, this is the course for you!

Through age-appropriate mysteries, you’ll learn about DNA, fingerprints, footprints and other trace evidence, as well as facial composites.

You’ll develop deduction, math skills, problem-solving and critical thinking skills by working collaboratively.

The skills you learn will be put to the test on the final day, when we create a crime scene for you to investigate.

Week 8: August 22nd – 26th

Super Structures (5-6)

Do you like to build things? Are you an aspiring engineer? Then this hands-on exploration course is for you!

During this course, you will learn basic building principals and apply your knowledge by taking part in daily structure challenges!

You will learn how to apply critical thinking skills, how to be a creative designer and problem-solver, and apply math, science and design concepts using a variety of building materials, including straws, paper, clay, blocks, K’Nex, Lego and even eggs!

Super Scientists (7-9)

Cooking is both an art and a science. Pear Tree’s cooking science course is the best hands-on method for kids to develop a fascination and deeper understanding of chemistry.

Students will learn about, cook with, and eat a variety of ingredients that transform depending on how they are prepared.

Week 9: August 29th – September 2nd

Wetland Wonders (5-6)

Ponds and wetlands are an important part of Vancouver’s ecosystem, and as young biologists, we’ll study some of wetlands features up close.

We will learn about the life cycle of a frog, study water plants, observe local birds, and do pond dipping! Each day will have a different focus and we will explore through art, drama, literature and experiments.

This course includes a field trip to a local pond, where we can observe a wetland habitat’s features.

Space (7-9)

Do you know what it takes to fly to the moon, or even beyond? Take a trip into space with Pear Tree’s out-of-this-world Space Invader’s camp!

Train like an astronaut, build and test space technology, and learn about the possibility of living on other planets. We’ll also make lunatic landers and other simulated spacecrafts to explore life in space and other planets.

At the end of the week, we’ll apply our knowledge of space to our “Space Mission”, to see if human life can exist on a mysterious new planet.

TV Reporters (10-14)

Do you like being in front of the camera? Whether you’re interested in Talk Shows, weather reports, movie reviews, or on-location News Reports, Pear Tree’s TV reporter has something for you.

Over the week, you’ll prepare and create a series of different TV productions using digital technology, and edit them using sophisticated video editing software. You’ll even get to try to create Green Screen effects!

This is an amazing course for developing Public Speaking skills!
